Every Cornell student, parent, and alumnus knows that the Statler is a gem. The views alone justifies anyone’s stay. At sunset the whole campus frame turns gold. I was in Ithaca for my dissertation defense and the hotel staff were so accommodating and encouraging. No off-campus property matches the experience. What sets the Statler apart, though, is the student staff. Every interaction, at the front desk, in the restaurant, with the valets, with in-room dining, carried the same quality (warm, attentive, quietly precise). You can feel the training, and you can also feel that they genuinely care about how the stay goes. The room itself is extremely comfortable and thoughtfully laid out, with good light and a proper work desk. The food is so many steps above hotel fare, and the cocktails are tremendous. Lastly, there is something lovely about being looked after by the next generation of hospitality leaders, on the campus where they are learning and growing into that craft.
